The movie follows the confusion and struggle of two women in society and in life.
Chia-Li Lin She grew up in a family of physicians in southern Taiwan. Chia-Li’s older brother fell in love with Chia-Li’s best friend, Wei-Ching Tan, but they broke up due to her father’s opposition, and her brother married someone else but lived an unhappy life.
Unwilling to give up her lover and accept the marriage arranged by her father like her brother, Chia-Li runs away from home and marries her lover, Cheng De-Wei.
De Wei is busy with his work and neglects to care for Jia Li, causing her to feel lonely and empty.
One day, De Wei suddenly evaporates. While searching for her husband’s body on the beach alone, Jia Li learns from De Wei’s company that De Wei has defrauded the public coffers, and it no longer matters to Jia Li whether De Wei is alive or dead.
Years later, Lin Chia-Li meets her old friend Tan Wei-Qing again, and as they reminisce in a café, Chia-Li is determined to live independently and strongly.
This movie tells us that the process of growing up is when a person gradually stops believing in love.

Lin Chia-Li (Aika Chang) grows up in a family of physicians in a traditional town in southern Taiwan.
She and her brother, Lin Chia-Sen (Kao Ming-Hung), received an elite education and graduated from a prestigious university.
However, like her brother, Chia-Li is unwilling to give up her lover, Tan Wei-Ching (Hu Yin-Meng), and accept the marriage imposed by her father’s order.
She resolutely leaves home and heads north to marry and settle down with her lover Cheng Dewei (Mao Xuewei) in the rapidly modernizing city of Taipei.
However, as Taiwan’s economy takes off in the ’70s and ’80s, business competition is fierce, and De Wei gradually becomes involved in the world of money, entertainment and sex, and eventually loses himself.
Feeling more and more lonely and empty, Chia-Li receives a phone call one day, telling her that Teh-Wei has drowned at the beach.
She rushes to the beach and is confronted by the body of her husband, whose identity she does not know.
Years later, Chia-Li meets Tan Wei-Qing, who has returned from a foreign country for a performance, and they reminisce in a café.
