Based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel of the same name, the movie follows the conflict between John Rambo, a Vietnam veteran, and a small-town cop.
Rambo, a lone veteran on a quest to find his old war buddies, clashes with a small town’s sheriff, which leads to a fierce manhunt.
One of the core themes of the movie is anti-war. As a survivor of the Vietnam War, Rambo, despite his bravery and courage, had difficulty integrating into society after the war and became a forgotten hero. His encounter reflects the physical and mental destruction of war on soldiers and the neglect of veterans by society, and his image not only represents the predicament and struggle of veterans, but also reflects the insignificance and helplessness of the individual in the face of the powerful social machine.
