The movie is based on Rodrigo Thorpe’s 1979 novel, “The World Is Not What It Used To Be,” which tells the story of New York police officer John McLean, who, when traveling to Los Angeles to attend his wife’s company’s Christmas party on Christmas eve, encounters a group of German terrorists occupying the building and holding all the personnel hostage, and McLean and the terrorists engage in a life-and-death struggle and ultimately succeed in rescuing the hostages.
In the movie, the bad guys always talk too much, and the good guys always have a halo of protagonism.
Die Hard was a highly influential movie of the 1980s, and is an example of the action movies that have followed, especially in the 1990s.
In the household sitcom Old Friends, there are several homages to Die Hard. Chandler, Joey, and Ross, often revisit Die Hard over and over again together. Bruce Willie, the star of Die Hard, guest starred in the sixth season of Old Friends as Paul, the father of Ross’s 21-year old girlfriend, Elizabeth. Paul has a strained relationship with Ross, but begins a short-lived romance with Rachel.
