The movie tells the story of a black boy named Chiron as he grows up in his childhood, teenage years, and young adulthood, showing the poverty and violence in the black community in the United States, as well as the discrimination and plight faced by black homosexuals.
The film won the Best Picture award at the 89th Academy Awards, beating out “Lovejoy”, however, I don’t think this movie is as good as “Lovejoy”, and it doesn’t bring the audience as much joy and emotion as “Lovejoy” does, I still prefer the romantic and gorgeous, full of dreamy colorful song and dance movie of “Lovejoy”.
