The movie tells the biographical story of Zhang Sanfeng, the founder of Taijiquan. Zhang Junbao and Dong Tianbao are a pair of brothers who grew up in the Shaolin Temple since they were young. Zhang Junbao is kind and loyal by nature, while Dong Tianbao is cunning and aspires to power, and the two of them were expelled from the Temple due to a dispute with their master’s uncle.
After leaving the Shaolin Temple, the two men went their separate ways because of their different aspirations. Dong Tianbao chose to join the army for the sake of glory, while Zhang Junbao chose to work with a group of benevolent people to rob the rich and help the poor.
Dong Tianbao is willing to betray his friends in order to gain fame and fortune, which leads to the tragic deaths of a large number of benevolent men and women.
After suffering betrayal and blows, Zhang Jun Bao created Tai Chi Chuan and defeated Dong Tian Bao, who was greedy for fame and fortune.
Eventually, Zhang Junbao retired to Wudang Mountain and founded the Wudang Sect, eventually becoming the “Taiji Zhang Sanfeng”.

At the end of the Ming Dynasty, when eunuchs are in power, the people are suffering from harsh taxes and tyranny.
Zhang Junbao (Jet Li) and Dong Tianbao (Qian Xiaohao) are a pair of brothers who grew up in the Shaolin Temple since childhood, but their personalities are very different: Zhang Junbao is kind and loyal, while Dong Tianbao is cunning and insidious. When competing for the qualification to enter the Dharma Temple, both of them were expelled from Shaolin due to a dispute with their master.
After leaving the temple, the two men went their separate ways due to their different aspirations. Dong Tianbao joined the army for glory and honor, while Zhang Junbao joined a group of benevolent men to rob the rich and help the poor.
In order to seek high office, Dong Tianbao sells out a large number of his old friends to Liu Jin, a great eunuch, and bloodshed ensues.
In order to avenge the deaths of his friends and help the people, Zhang Jun Bao, with the help of Qiu Xue (Michelle Yeoh), learns a martial arts technique called “Tai Chi Chuan” from his master’s qigong method, and starts practicing it diligently in preparation for a bloody battle with his enemy.
