This film may be the first Taiwanese film I’ve seen in the cinema, and is organized by the school to watch collectively, I remember crying in the theater, the scene is very spectacular, the film’s interlude, “The world is only as good as your mother” has become one of the classic children’s songs of the year.
The film is a low-budget ethical tragedy, the story is adapted from the Taiwanese folk tale “Eighteen Years of a Crazy Woman”, which describes a psychiatrist who returns home after studying abroad and is about to start his business in a mental hospital, when he discovers by chance that one of the patients in the hospital is his mother who has disappeared for 18 years and reawakens his mother’s memory with the children’s song “The World is Good to Mothers”. He uses a children’s song “Only Mother is Good” to reawaken his mother’s memories, and the mother and son are reunited.

Huang Qiu Xia (Yang Gui Mei) and Lin Guo Rong (Li Xiaofei), the son of a rich family, fell in love with each other, and have been secretly married. However, during the marriage talks, the two were forcibly separated by Lin’s mother on the grounds that Huang Qiu Xia’s family was not innocent, and Lin Guo Rong married a woman of his own family, while Huang Qiu Xia relied on a country aunt to give birth to Zhi Qiang (Xie Xiaoyu, Sun Yadong) to be raised independently.
A few years later, Lin Guo Rong’s wife was confirmed to be unable to bear children, the Lin family parents in order to continue the lineage, the methods used to make Zhiqiang left Huang Qiuxia returned to the Lin family to recognize the ancestor, but the young Zhiqiang is unable to accept the life without his mother, repeatedly tried to return to his mother’s side, but in one of the attempts to meet the rain led to the end of his life, Huang Qiuxia because of the excitement of this matter, lost his footing and fell down the stairs to become a madwoman.
