Based on Jane Wilde’s memoir “Flight to Infinity: Days with Stephen Hawking”, the movie tells the love story of renowned physicist Stephen Hawking and his first wife Jane Wilde, which began at Cambridge University, as well as Hawking’s inspiring saga before and after his illness.
Jane Wilde was a literature undergraduate who met and fell in love with Stephen Hawking, a physics student studying for his PhD, at a party. However, Hawking, who suffered from motor nerve disease, was diagnosed by doctors as having only a two-year life expectancy, but the two quickly married and started a family with three children.
As Hawking’s condition deepened, he became wheelchair-bound and was unable to speak as a result of pneumonia surgery, while Jane Wilde fell in love with Jonathan, a pianist, during their time together, and eventually decided to part ways with her.
Hawking, as a physicist who studies the theory of time, his life and scientific research are closely linked to time. The movie skillfully uses time as a main thread throughout, and these moments, which include both laughter and tears, carve a clear line on the title page of time: a story about time.
