Plot Synopsis:
Jon (Jon Voight), a poor cowboy, comes to New York from his hometown to make a living. He thinks he’s suave, so he tries to make a living as a gigolo in New York.
When he arrives in New York on his first day, he hits on women on the street.
Unexpectedly, he lost 20 dollars instead of business.
Frustrated, Jon meets Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman), who specializes in scamming women for a small fortune. Rizzo tricks Jon into telling him that he knows the head of a group of male prostitutes, but charges him $20 as a brokerage fee.
In the end, Rizzo just introduces Jon to a gay pimp, and an enraged Jon then finds Rizzo.
Rizzo takes in the homeless Jon, and the two become good friends who talk about everything.
During the cold New York winter, the two men are so miserable that they have no food or clothing, and Rizzo has no money to buy medicine for his illness. Rizzo longs for the life in Miami, and he invites Jon to go to Miami with him to break into the world.
The two come to a speakeasy one night to try their luck, and when Jon finally gets a deal, Rizzo falls down the stairs, out of energy.
