Based on the novel of the same name by British author Thomas Hardy, the movie tells the story of a woman who inherits a large farmhouse in Victorian England and plans to run and develop it herself.
Her beauty also attracts three men with very different personalities: an experienced shepherd hireling, a wealthy farmer, and a handsome, dashing, and flirtatious officer. The heroine, who seems to be independent and strong, but actually lacks judgment, ultimately chooses to marry the sweet-talking officer.
This decision brings her a lot of pain and distress, the playboy not only does not know how to run a farm, but also addicted to gambling and promiscuity, this experience also makes her rethink what is true happiness and independence, and ultimately, after her husband’s death, she chooses to marry the experienced shepherd.

Plot Synopsis:
Set in Victorian England, where the idyllic feudal patriarchal society has been hit hard by capitalism and is on the verge of disintegration.
A beautiful young girl, Bathsheba (Carey Mulligan), inherits her aunt’s farm and becomes its owner. A young man, Garibuel (Matthias Schoenaerts), falls in love with Bathsheba and comes to work for her on her farm.
However, Bathsheba doesn’t take the honest Garibuel seriously; she is madly in love with a playboy named Troy (Tom Sturridge), and although Troy once cruelly abandoned the innocent teenage girl Fanny (Juno Temple), Bathsheba still blindly believes that this man can bring her the the perfect love of her dreams.
