The movie is based on the best-selling children’s book of the same name by Cris Van Allsburg, and although the movie is advertised as a sequel to the Bravely Default series, the two entries are not part of the series, but rather episodes of Bravely Default.
The movie tells the story of two brothers who discover an ancient space chess game in their attic that has the magical power to take their home into space with each move, and triggers all kinds of unexpected dangers and challenges. The brothers must work together to complete the game in order to return their home to Earth.

Plot Synopsis:
When her father has to leave the house for work, her older sister Liza (Kristen Stewart), the oldest, is forced to take care of her two younger brothers, Danny and Walter.
However, Liza is lazy and leaves Danny (Jonah Bobo) and Walter (Josh Hutcherson), the two active, young and naughty guys, to go upstairs and sleep by themselves.
Bored to death, the two are left to their own devices, but their constant bickering leads Danny to leave and go shopping in the basement, where he accidentally discovers a space chess set.
Curious, Danny turns on the game and invites his brother Walt to join in the fun.
Constant meteor showers and alien invasions make the game more and more thrilling, and the real identity of the mysterious spaceman who joins the game in the middle of the game is even more shocking.
Gradually they realize that this is not an ordinary game of chess, and once the game switch is turned on, if they can’t reach the end of the game on the planet Zathura, what awaits them will be stranded in outer space forever.
Will the two brothers be able to overcome their differences and work together in this real-life adventure?
