The movie is set in Foshan, Guangdong Province in the 1930s. Wing Chun martial arts master Yip Man is not only proficient in Wing Chun, but also a humble person with high martial arts ethics, whose superb martial arts skills and noble martial arts virtues Guang enjoys a very high reputation in the martial arts community.
However, with the outbreak of the war of Japanese invasion of China, Ip Man’s life underwent a great change, his house was overrun and his life was very difficult. Plot Summary:
In the 1930s, Foshan, the capital of Chinese martial arts, is the capital of China.
In the 1930s, the northern martial arts master Jin Shan (Fan Shao Huang) leads a group of people to Foshan to kick the school, and all the major martial arts masters have become his defeat, he looks for Ip Man (Donnie Yen), who has acquired a full range of martial arts but has not set up a museum to teach his students.
At the request of police inspector Li Zhao (Lam Ka Tung), his friend Wu Zhi Lin (Hsing Yu) and other neighbors, and with the encouragement of his wife Cheung Wing Shing (Hsiung Dai Lin), Ip Man uses Wing Chun to subdue Kam Shan with his softness and establish his position as a master in Foshan, and Li Zhao even regards him as his master in his private life.
Before that, Ip Man’s best friend Chow Ching Chuen (Simon Yam) was interested in dragging him to open a textile factory, but for fear of being separated from his beloved wife and son, he only supported Chow financially.
A few years later, the invading Japanese army captures Foshan, and Ip Man, like his surviving neighbors, is forced to move to an abandoned house with his wife and son.
As he struggles to make ends meet, Ip Man joins the crowd to compete for a chance to work as a laborer in a coal mine, while Li Zhao becomes an interpreter for the Japanese army.
The Japanese general Sanpo (Hiroyuki Ikeuchi), a martial arts fanatic, offers a bag of rice as a reward, and sends Li Zhao to search for capable fighters to spar with the Japanese in a fighting ring, which results in the deaths of many former martial arts gym owners and martial arts fanatics.
