Plot Summary:
Emperor Zhengde (Zhang Zhen) and his sister Wushuang (Faye Wong) are both tired of the monotony of palace life and want to sneak out of the palace to see the outside world.
Wushuang disguises herself as a man and arrives in the town of Meilong in the south of the Yangtze River, where she meets the siblings Lung (Tony Leung) and Fung (Zhao Wei), who run a store and fall in love with Lung.
When Wushuang’s identity was exposed and brought back to the palace, Emperor Zhengde came to Meilong Town in disguise, and pulled out his sword to help Feng when he was provoked by thugs, and the two of them became acquainted with each other after a period of time to get along with each other and develop feelings.
Unable to bear the longing for Ah Lung, Wushuang escapes from the palace again and returns to Meilong Town. The four of them meet in a store, and after the misunderstandings are cleared up, they make a private bet on their lives, but they are unexpectedly blocked by the Empress Dowager.
