Apple’s 2024 New Year’s Eve short film, Garlic, tells a story of self-identity, featuring Vivian, a girl who grew up thinking she was “not good enough” and who possesses a superpower – the ability to transform into someone else at any time.
After leaving home and moving to the big city, she uses this ability more and more frequently in order to seek the approval of those around her and to embrace a sense of belonging.
However, this frequent transformation eventually leads her to lose herself, and through her grandfather’s guidance during the Chinese New Year, Vivian eventually rediscovers her true self.
The movie is directed by The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, starring Fan Wei, and was shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
