The film is set in a different parallel universe than the previous Terminator film series, in 2029, human resistance leader John Connor leads his men in an attack on Skynet’s ultimate weapon: the time machine, however, Skynet has sent a T-800 Terminator through the time machine back in time to 1984 to assassinate John Connor’s mother, Sarah Connor, and Kyle Reese volunteers to enter the time machine to go back to the the past to protect Sarah, only to be transported to a parallel timeline.
In this parallel universe, Sarah was raised by T-800 Terminators and trained as a prima donna warrior, and in the past, Sarah and the T-800 teamed up to successfully kill multiple Terminators sent from Skynet.
In the new timeline, Skynet is known as “Genesis” and Sarah and Kyle travel together to August 28, 2017 in order to stop Judgment Day, when John Connor has been infected by a Skynet Terminator and has become a human-transformed T-3000 Terminator. 3000 Terminator, and ultimately, Sarah and Kyle must join forces to defeat the T-3000 Terminator and destroy Cybertron, Inc.

Plot Synopsis:
After possessing an independent consciousness, Skynet unleashes a bloodbath against the humans who created it.
In the years since, John Connor (Jason Clarke) has led his comrades in a protracted war against Skynet’s robot army.
After a pivotal battle, Skynet sends the Terminators to 1984 Los Angeles in an attempt to kill John’s mom, Sarah (Emilia Clarke).
John, in turn, sends his closest comrade in arms – and his biological father, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) – to the past.
Just after arriving in Los Angeles, Kyle is attacked by the liquid metal Terminator T-1000 (Byung-Hun Lee).
Meanwhile, “Pops” (Arnold Schwarzenegger) teams up with Sarah to take out the Terminator T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger).
